Mobile headlight restoration

We remove the yellow, oxidized layer from your headlight lenses, polish them to clear and seal them with UV protection. On-site anywhere in the Knoxville area, in about an hour, starting at $99.99.

The short answer

Headlight restoration removes the damaged, oxidized outer layer of a plastic headlight lens and replaces the failed factory UV coating. Beacon does it at your location in about an hour. It costs a fraction of new headlights, starting at $99.99, and brings back both the light output and the look of your car.

Signs your headlights need restoring

  • The lenses look yellow, foggy or milky, even right after a car wash
  • Your low beams seem dim, or the light looks scattered and short
  • The surface feels rough or chalky, or the clear coat is peeling
  • You’re selling or trading in and want the car to look its best

What’s included

Every Beacon restoration is the full professional process, not a quick wipe-on product:

  1. Inspection. We check whether the haze is on the outside of the lens (restorable) or inside the housing (usually needs a repair).
  2. Protection. Paint, bumpers and trim around each headlight are taped off.
  3. Multi-stage wet-sanding. The oxidized layer is removed evenly, working from coarse to very fine grits so no sanding marks remain.
  4. Hand polishing. Each lens is polished by hand to optical clarity.
  5. UV-protective coating. A new protective coat replaces the factory coating that failed, which is what keeps the lenses from yellowing again quickly.
  6. Final check. We walk you through the result and give you simple tips to keep them clear.

Why headlights turn yellow

Modern headlight lenses are made of polycarbonate, a tough plastic that is light and shatter-resistant but breaks down in sunlight. From the factory, it’s protected by a thin UV hard coat. Over the years, sun exposure, heat from the bulbs, road salt, gravel and harsh car-wash chemicals wear through that coating. The exposed plastic then oxidizes, which shows up as yellowing, cloudiness and a rough surface. Read more about why headlights turn yellow.

Restoration vs. replacement

If the inside of the headlight is dry and the housing isn’t cracked, restoration is almost always the better value. New headlight assemblies often cost hundreds of dollars per side for common cars and much more for newer vehicles with LED or adaptive lights. Restoration fixes the actual problem, the damaged lens surface, for a fraction of that. Compare restoration and replacement in detail.
